A few cadets volunteered to manually pilot a plane. This was an amazing experience, which not many people get to do for themselves.

A few select cadets were picked to participate in the greatest leadership camp AFJROTC has to offer. They learned many new skills and honed them through the week.

A couple of  handfuls of AFJROTC VA-961 cadets went to a local Presbyterian church to help load and pack Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. This was a great expeirence for everyone present.

Many of our younger cadets went to the local food pantry to help out. While there they helped pack, load and move boxes full of food for the less fortunate. This was a great experience for these cadets to learn to serve their community.

VA-961 got the unique opportunity to participate in the Tazewell Veteran's Parade. Our color guard led the parade and cadets followed behind. This was a great opportunity for us to reach out to the community.

Some VA-961 cadets volunteered to help feed our community's veterans. They worked with other students to help feed our community 

Cadets got to walk in and lead the Richlands Homecoming Parade. This was a great opportunity for cadets to reach out to the community and represent our unit. 

Cadets had the privilege to help out Richlands High School with the Big Blue Band Competition. Cadets were tasked with many jobs such as traffic guidance, water station maintenance, and campus guides for the visiting bands.

Cadets Volunteered to present a forty-foot-long flag on the Richlands High School Football Field. The flag was presented to honor of our veterans, who got into the game for free, and was invited onto the field for the Star Spangled Banner.

Cadets helped the community by donating time to prepare Cedar Bluff for its annual festival. VA961 is always happy to lend a helping hand to the community when the opportunity is presented.

Some cadets went to the Air National Guard base in Charleston, West Virginia. While there they learned about different fields in the Air National Guard, and explored a C-130.

In past years, cadets were selected to help out the community by providing support to local bingo games. At these events, cadets helped carry prizes, restock concessions, and help sell bingo cards.

Once a year, our local National Guard station invites first year cadets to their armory to see military equipment up-close. On this trip cadets saw military vehicles, various weapon systems, and even got to use PVS-14 night vision goggles.

Last year, cadets found themselves on a paint-covered battlefield using nothing but paintball markers and intuetion to not get hit by their opponents. 

Raider competitions are athletic competitions held by Junior ROTC programs across the nation. The Raiders trained tough and are proud to claim second place in last year's contest and hope to take home first this year.

One of the core values of the United States Airforce is service before self. One way that AFJROTC unit VA-961 serves the community is by donating time to our local food pantry. We always find this time to be an honor and to be humbling.
